New York Giants CB Adoree’ Jackson’s Sprained Ankle

According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Adoree’ Jackson left the field with the team trainers. After Mac Jones throws a pass to Jakobi Meyers, Adoree Jackson was slow to get up. “Adoree Jackson has his left foot completely bare as he limps off with trainers,” according to Pat Leonard. Ankle sprains often result from the foot suddenly twisting or rolling, which forces the ankle out of position. Since Adoree’ Jackson was able to limp off the field that is a sign that it was most likely not broken and just a mild sprained ankle. This means that he should be ready to play before week one of the season.

What is an Ankle Sprain?

Ligaments stabilize your joints, preventing the joints from moving excessively. When ankle ligaments are forced beyond their normal range of motion, such as in a sudden twist or roll, symptoms may include:

  • Swelling
  • Brusing
  • A feeling of instability in the ankle
  • Tender to the touch
  • pain, when you put your weight on the injured foot.

Aid for an Ankle Sprain

Like Adoree’ Jackson, if you can put your weight on your foot and walk right after you twisted your ankle, it is fairly unlikely that the ankle is broken. Although it might not be broken the pain you might experience can be very painful.

For a sprain like Adoree’ Jackson’s, implement the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) technique is a great place to start. Within a few days of Practicing RICE alongside non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen you should feel an improvement in your ankle.

Professional Guidance for Your Ankle Sprain

Here at Frankel Foot and Ankle Center, we will diagnose your ankle sprain by performing a thorough examination by several methods:

  • Range of motion. By rotating your ankle in different directions we will be able to tell how severe it is.
  • In the event of a severe sprain, your podiatrist will order an X-ray to hopefully rule out a fracture.
  • Palpation. Your podiatrist will press gently around the ankle to determine which potential ligaments have been damaged.

Do Not Leave Your Sprained Ankle Untreated

Leaving a sprained ankle untreated can have severe implications down the road. Returning to activities too soon, or failing to treat it in the first place can result in long-term ankle instability. Contact Dr. Marc Frankel at the Frankel Foot and Ankle Center to get your sprained ankle treated properly.
