Ankle Fracture – Case 2
A 46-year-old male with an uncomplicated fibula ankle fracture that failed to heal with 6 weeks of non-operative treatment in a walking cast. His medical history was unremarkable and the fracture should have healed without surgery. The patient vaped and we believe this may be a contributing factor to this non-healing event. We advanced the patient by reducing the ankle to anatomic alignment and utilizing a bone graft from his heal along with a demineralized bone matrix and a special plate to facilitate healing. The patient is back to work following physical therapy to regain his ankle range of motion and strength!
